Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child

The arrival of a child is a wonderful occasion, and many families want to mark this special time by giving thanks to God and celebrating with family and friends.

A Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child is a joyful church service in which we give thanks for your child, pray for them and for your family, and celebrate the gift of new life.

A Thanksgiving is different from a Baptism, or Christening. You may choose a Thanksgiving if you feel that Baptism is not the right step for your child at this time. It can also be especially appropriate following the birth of a baby or when a child has been welcomed into your family through adoption.

Choosing a Thanksgiving does not prevent your child from being baptised at a later date. Some families may also choose to have a Thanksgiving as part of their journey towards Baptism.

Whatever your circumstances, you and your family are warmly welcome in our church. Our priest will be very happy to talk with you about a Thanksgiving service.
